DOMESTIC AND PERIOD BUILDINGS
Our period building and domestic division has extensive knowledge of timber frame buildings and also flint and brick. We have worked on period building projects from small works to larger more complex work, ranging in value from a few pounds to over one and a half million pounds. Our experienced team work with lime mortar in its various forms, wattle and daub, clay lump and a relatively new product available, Hemcrete. We are able to work sympathetically with structures to provide professional and environmentally-friendly solutions.
Projects recently carried out include extensive refurbishment to barns, and conversions for both domestic and commercial use. Examples of our work include the complete rebuild of a 16th century thatched cottage that had been destroyed by fire. The refurbishment and renovation of a grade II* listed Medieval Hall and extensive renovation to a 15th century Suffolk cottage, which included work to the thatched roof, rotten timbers being replaced with new oak and external walls reinstated with Hemcrete.
We are able to work sympathetically with structures to provide professional and environmentally-friendly solutions. We have worked together with architects and designers to produce sustainable building features, taken into account aesthetic and structural considerations. Our team have installed air-source and ground-source heat pumps as well as other features to reduce fuel and power consumption and therefore the carbon footprint of buildings.
